Miss Sexy Student Miss Great Britain 2009 Contest Cancelled
[21-January-2009]

The credit crunch has not only hit the property and finance markets, but it looks like one of the oldest beauty pageants in the country has also been hit hard.  New organisers De Keyser Fashions, who have run the contest since 2006,  today put up a notice on their official website, stating ‘We are sorry to announce that Miss Great Britain 2009 has been postponed until a later date, please check back regularly for further details.’ At around the same time, articles began appearing all over the UK regarding the well known and highly respected Miss Northern Ireland pageant having to down – size for 2009.  Andrea Roche, the organiser of the grand slam Miss Northern Ireland contest that feeds in to Miss Universe, said ‘"Obviously I'm going to have to look at various elements of the pageant this year," she revealed. "Everybody's cutting costs and we'll be no different, we'll have to make compromises.  The 2009 girl will not have it as easy as the 2008 winner.”  However, the glamorous Tipperary woman is determined the competition will go ahead, unlike the Miss Great Britain pageant, which was last week axed due to a lack of sponsorship.

Miss Sexy Student Contest Warning!
[24-October-2008]

It has been brought to our attention that a new student contest is being promoted.  The Miss Sexy Student contest has only sprung up in the past couple of weeks, but UK Beauties has received numerous warnings about it’s organisation, largely based on the fact that the website and all text on www.misssexystudent.com is almost a carbon copy of the original student contest and Official Miss Student website (www.missstudent.com).  We do not have any further information at this point, so feedback is very welcome.

Miss World Miss World changes Venue for 2008 World Final!
[15-August-2008]

It was decided that for reasons beyond Miss World's control, it was necessary to move the final from Ukraine. When this was announced in the media, several cities/countries approached the Miss World Organisation about the hosting of Miss World 2008 Final.
Each city presented to Julia Morley, Chairman of Miss World Limited, their plan for hosting. This included details of hotel arrangements, a suitable venue to stage the final and the backing of all the parties necessary to stage a successful world class event in their city.
Julia Morley was very impressed with the bid from Lindiwe Mahlunga of the Johannesburg Tourism Company, as it not only fulfilled all the requirements to stage the final but also was backed by a young dynamic team who sincerely believe in their World Class City. Johannesburg is therefore the host city for Miss World 2008
"The speed with which they have implemented their proposal and the professional and dedicated support of Lindiwe and the JTC team have already demonstrated that we can stage the most successful Miss World in our history.
We look forward to working with the city of Johannesburg to promote their World Class City in over 180 countries during our one month Miss World Festival. Our goal is to bring more visitors to your vibrant city so that they too can enjoy the sights and sounds of Joburg and the hospitality if its people.
"

Miss Great Britain Miss Great Britain in By-Election
[29-May-2008]

New Miss Great Britain winner Gemma Garret is controversially standing as an independent candidate at the Crewe and Nantwich Election on 22nd May 2008. First runner up to Rachel Tennent in the 2007 Miss Great Britain contest, Gemma took up the title of Miss GB after Rachel left earlier this year. Gemma said of her new responsibilities, "I am delighted to be standing in the seat where the late Gwyneth Dunwoody did so much to enhance the reputation of politics and politicians at a time when others were bringing them into disrepute. Like her, I am determined to improve the lot of British women by campaigning across a whole range of women’s issues.. In particular I absolutely believe that the cost of child care should be made tax deductible. This would be the most enormous help to millions of women who choose both to have children and to go out to work. I also want to lend my support to our boys fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan by proposing pay increases to privates and corporals in active service who lay their lives on the line for meagre pay."
