Mrs Great Britain is the UK's first beauty contest for married, divorced or widowed women. It is run by Mrs England winner, Veena Warmann and her husband, and has been developed to promote today's married/divorced or widowed women, their accomplishments, and their commitment to family and marriage. Where in other contests, yong women are disqualified or not permitted to enter for being married or having children, this contest celebrates the family unit, the miracle of birth and celebrate the outstanding success a woman has achieved as a wife, mother, friend and community leader. Around the world women are finding this system to be the opportunity to work with their husband and family to become positive role models. Being the first contest of it's kind, Mrs Great Britain opens doors for married/divorced and widowed women around the UK. As well as the glitz and glamour of the pageant, they are offering the women/contestants a chance to take a few days out for themselves to be pampered and appreciated and to make new friendships.

Held for the first time in 2008, the national final for the selection of a UK candidate to attend Miss International is finally here! Miss Beauty Queen winner Jamie Lee says, “It was a fantastic day, I met some lovely girls who were very supportive and genuinely pleased of my winning. OK magazine were there and MTV… I look forward to my year as Miss Beauty Queen and representing Britain in Chicago”. The entry age is the widest of any UK pageant, being 19 to 29, so the more mature contestants who narrowly miss out in other UK pageants get their chance to shine in this one. There is also a Teen and Mrs version of this pageant, so it’s very versatile and not restricted to just ‘Miss’ contestants - which is good news for those younger entrants, or those married and with children. |

Another new contest for 2009, Miss Beauty UK’s motto is ‘The spirit of beauty in all shapes and sizes’ and as a result the age range for this contest is 18–29. The prizes promised for the 2009 national final are good and include the largest cash prize in the country: £25,000 going to the first place winner! Other prizes include a two week holiday for two, a modelling contract, personal website, a study course of the winner’s choice, 1 year’s gym membership and VIP treatment at various clubs. Not much is known about this contest yet, or the organiser Rupa Kanabar, so feedback is very welcome. |

Highly recommended by ALBA and definitely worth entering if you’re just starting out and want to gain some experience on the UK pageant circuit. Entry fee is a cheap £250, however the winner does not attend an international contest. On a more positive note, previous winners have always commented that they were treated well and got modelling work out of winning the title, and the prizes are good, which include: £1000 cash, a European holiday, a £1500 model portfolio, clothing, a personal website, and representation by a model agency. There is also a teen version of Miss British Isles. A good all-round pageant. |

According to the website, Miss Earth UK winners are “informed, goal-oriented and committed to playing a part in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.” 2005 was the first time the UK had held an official contest for Miss Earth UK. Prior to that, winners were chosen through a photo contest and attended as, and when available. The new organisers, who have held the franchise since 2006, have a new website and seem to be attracting lots of new entrants. Age range is 17–26. Well worth entering because if you win you get to go to Miss Earth, one of the big five, which is the experience of a lifetime! |

Another not particularly well – known contest, but again, definitely worth entering for experience. With a younger age range of 16 – 24, contestants can start their pageant career early through this contest. The prizes are good and the competition always seems to be fairly run, with each country selecting a team of 6 girls to attend the international contest in Europe. The English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh teams always seem to do fairly well, with the current European winner being from Wales. |

A brand new contest for 2008, run by former beauty queen Lucie Hide. The contest is open to both men and women, which makes it more appealing than most. Face for England is definitely a good contest to enter if you’re looking to get into modelling rather than just being a beauty queen (or guy), with the winners securing modelling contracts and promotional work throughout the year. The winner does not go to an international contest, however the free entry applications, no age limit and the £20,000 worth of great prizes definitely make this contest a favourite of UK BEAUTIES! |

Miss England

New Winner:
»Laura Coleman
International Contest:
»Miss World
|
With a flashy new website for 2008, the Miss England contest has always received mixed reviews. Age range until recent years was 17–25, which has now changed to a maximum age of 24 – leaving a lot of girls excluded. Aside from that, contestants do gain maximum publicity from being in the national final, and for the first time, 2008 introduced a cash prize of £5000, plus a good selection of sponsored prizes which include: a holiday for two, hair extensions, a gym membership, teeth whitening, and a wardrobe for Miss World. We have received mixed reviews about Miss England, as certain girls do seem to make it to the final who have a story to tell - this year there was an ex - army servicewoman who had fought in Iraq and 1st runner up Chloe was the first size 16 girl to make the Miss England final. Due to the mixed feedback, this contest would have a lower star rating, were it not for the fact that the winner attends Miss World!

The final covers England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and focuses on the beauty and poise of each contestant: a proper old – school pageant and definitely a top one to enter if you’re looking to do things by the book, but still great fun! Competing in Miss Galaxy International is a fun filled experience which involves many amazing photo shoots, pyjama diva parties, and the chance to win the Miss Galaxy International crown!!! The prizes include: a selection of evening dresses from www.promgirl.net, hair extensions, and a day of hair and beauty treatments, with more to be added. Age range for this contest is 18 – 29.

This contest is the UK’s entry to Miss Model of the World, and last year’s 2008 was the first in 10 years. The international pageant has been running since 1988, however the UK hadn’t entered since 1998 as the previous UK director did not play an active role. Age range for this pageant is 17 – 25. In 2008 Ashley Mckeever and Natalie Boyle took over the UK directorship. Both Natalie and Ashley are former beauty queens, and like UK founder Hannah McCuaig, know the pitfalls of the industry as they too have experienced them first hand. In the 2008 national final, all results were made visible to contestants to ensure them that there was no "fixing" going on and the directors want to ensure that the contest is run fairly.
Girls are selected from the regional finals and have to pay a £75 entry fee, which is one of the cheapest in 2009. One winner is selected from each country (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) to represent their country’s at Miss Model of the World.

Model of the Year was set up by Page 3 girl turned actress Kerri Parker, giving new models a chance to be seen in the industry, and make a name for themselves. This is very much a glamour rather than a beauty contest. The 2009 rounds are being judges by celebrities such as Big Brother winner Rachel Rice and other well known names in the industry, to go to the grand final in November 2009. Prizes include: £1200 hair salon vouchers by celeb stylist Max Giamello, over £1000 worth of portfolio, airbrushing and design services, a £1000 website, a holiday and photo shoot in Marbella with Kerri, £200 House of Fraser vouchers and goodies, £200 lingerie vouchers, a £500 latest Blackberry handset, gym membership, beauty goodies, clothes, vouchers for restaurants, £500 platinum memberships to Mercy Nightclub, and lots of other goodies! Entry age is 16-30 and contestants are free to be married and have children. It is free to enter and requires NO sponsorship, which is fantastic! |

If you’re after a glamour modelling career, then this is the contest for you! The winner appears on the front cover of Nuts Magazine, and if you don’t mind strutting your stuff on stage at the Boardmasters in Newquay during the summer months, or being on the cover of lads magazines, then go for it! Not championed towards the high end of the ‘classy’ scale, but everyone is different, and this contest is definitely more aimed at those wanting to enter the glamour, rather than the fashion end of modelling. |

The Scottish Sun has promoted Miss Scotland contest well in recent years, making it’s winners famous, which has led to it becoming Scotland’s premiere beauty pageant. Age range, as per the other Miss World national finals, is 17–24. If you live north of the border, Miss Scotland is definitely worth entering. Almost all Miss Scotland entrants have commented that it’s fairly run, the prizes are great, and all finalists appear in the Scottish Sun, which is a great way to kick – start your modelling career. The best national UK heat for Miss World, gets a UK BEAUTIES 5 Star rating! |

Despite the fact the winner of Mr and Miss Student do not go to a international contests, Miss Student UK still get a UK BEAUTIES 5 Star rating, due to the £10,000 prize money if you win, a European holiday for two, a photo shoot with a top modelling agency and numerous other fabulous prizes! Entry is only possible if you are currently attending a UK university, however there is no age limit, the regional heats are great fun and the national final is a blast, as current winner Katie says ‘Its not all about beauty, it’s about going up onstage, having a laugh and making lots of friends.’ The concept behind Miss Student is “More Than Just A Pretty Face” which sets it apart from a traditional Beauty Pageant. The organisers are looking to find the most popular, dynamic and determined students of the academic year. They are looking for all the good qualities, plus their commitment to helping others and their ability to be a role model – portraying their ‘crazy’ student side combined with an ambition to be the best they can. Oh yes, and the organisers are lovely. A real 21st century beauty pageant and a UK BEAUTIES favourite! |

2009 will be the first time this contest has run in the UK. The contest aims to find a professional fashion and marketing model, and the age range for this competition is 15 – 25 and Sponsors include Toni & Guy and The Casting Suite, which so far look good, however text voting is what will get you through to the regional finals, which some contestants find difficult. We have not heard much more than what is displayed on the website so any feedback about this contest is welcome, however there are high hopes for this competition in 2009! |
