Hello and welcome to the world of Teen contests! As a young woman, you are in the perfect position of being able to enter Teen contests…
The majority of UK pageants have an entry age of 17, however in the past 2 years, a large number of Teen contest have spring up, which is great news for those of you wanting to get a head start in the pageant industry by starting early. If you are in a Teen contest, make sure that you get your parent or guardian to sign the parental consent form, which will allow you to participate. Always make sure that they accompany you to the pageant as well. Never enter a Teen contest which does not ask for parental consent, or does not make provisions for parents to attend.
The same is true in life, as it is in pageants – young women must be well behaved, have good manners, and be punctual and professional at all times. The good thing about Teen contests is that they allow more room for mistakes, as you are only learning, but try to stay on your best behaviour at all times – be nice to the other contestants, don’t groan when your parents walk in, and thank the organiser when you leave; Be easy to direct in rehearsals, and make an effort to socialise – the organisers need to see that you are able to mix with strangers (have good social skills), are confident on the catwalk (have positive self esteem) and are a pleasure to be around (a good background) – little touches go a long way in this small industry and politeness and courtesy will not easily be forgotten. As a Teen model or pageant contestant, do not worry if you don’t have a professional portfolio, as you will change and grow rapidly, meaning your photos may go out of date within a couple of months. A few easy snapshots taken in the garden with natural makeup and a nice dress should do the trick. After all – Teen contests are about embracing being a young woman – there is plenty of time later on in the Miss contests, for fake eye lashes, extensions and padded bikinis! For your safety, and the safety of your family, we firstly recommend that you do not list your phone number, email address, postal address, or school. Also, don’t pose provocatively in your pictures – your photos should accurately represent you as a young beautiful woman, and should not be sexually suggestive at this age.
