With a flashy new website, the Miss England contest has always received mixed reviews. Age range until recent years was 17–25, which has now changed to a maximum age of 24 – leaving a lot of girls excluded. Aside from that, contestants do gain maximum publicity from being in the national final, plus a good selection of sponsored prizes are included which include: a holiday for two, hair extensions, a gym membership, teeth whitening, and a wardrobe for Miss World, and a holidays abroad. We have received mixed reviews about Miss England, as certain girls do regularly seem to make it to the final who have a story to tell, or heavyweight sponsors.
The contest has not escaped controversy either, with the original 2009 winner, Rachel Christie ho was recently dethroned, blasting the contest and it’s directors on the social networking website Facebook as ‘a load of money making b******s!’ and beginning an enormous controversy! Contestants in previous years have also been disqualified at the last minute, with one contestant paying £1250 to enter and being disqualified less than a week before the contest and was given no refund.
However, in contrast some contestants have had nothing but good things to say about participating in Miss England. 4 out of the last 7 year's winners have nothing but good things to say about the brand and work hard for it's organisers who ensure good publicity and often secure ood modelling photoshoots for various brands.
Due to the mixed feedback, UK Beauties thinks the jury is out on this one, and advises contestants to experience this pageant for themselves, and to make up their own minds.
